Association Visitor - South Hertfordshire
Association Visitors act as the main contact for people living with MND, this includes the person with MND, their family and carer on behalf of the Association. They keep in regular contact offering confidential emotional support, and accurate information to enable people with MND to make informed choices.
- MND is a fatal, rapidly progressive disease that affects the brain and spinal cord
- It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles refuse to work. Sensory nerves are not usually affected
- It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breath
- It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis
- It has no cure.
The MND Association was founded in 1979. Our mission is to improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers. We also fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatments and brings us closer to a cure for MND. The Association
Role Description
On completion of your training and induction, you would be expected to take on the following:
- Make and maintain contact regularly by phone, email or face to visits with people living with motor neurone disease.
- Explain the support and services the Association can offer.
- Explain the benefits of becoming a member.
- Discuss their needs and wishes regarding support from the Association
- Enable them to identify problems as they arise and explore how these might be managed, outlining the sorts of options available and how to access these
- Develop and maintain relationships with your local branch or group
- Make accurate and relevant records in accordance with the MND Associations guidelines and local protocols
- Attend support and supervision meetings and other development events
Full training and induction will be provided and travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Ideal Skills
For this role you need to be able to work as part of a team, liaise with Health & Social Care professionals and have the ability to develop and maintain supportive relationships.
We are looking for volunteers who can commit a minimum of 2 – 4 hours per week.
