Locations: Windsor & East Berkshire, Bristol & Bath, South Wiltshire, Plymouth, Torbay, North Devon, Coventry & Warwickshire, Dudley & Wolverhampton, Walsall & Sandwell, York, Northumberland, South London
The MND Association has over 90 branches and groups across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, all run entirely by volunteers who work together in many different ways to provide support, raise awareness, influence, and fundraise at a local level.
We are looking for a Group Leader to take the lead on group activities and delegate tasks and roles within the group accordingly.
- MND is a fatal, rapidly progressive disease that affects the brain and spinal cord
- It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles refuse to work. Sensory nerves are not usually affected
- It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breath
- It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis
- It has no cure.
The MND Association was founded in 1979. Our mission is to improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers. We also fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatments and brings us closer to a cure for MND. The Association also campaigns and raises awareness so the needs of people with MND, and everyone who cares for them, are recognised and addressed by wider society.
Role Description
What does this role involve?
- To help steer the group’s development and liaise closely with national office, regional staff and Association Visitors
- To lead the group’s organisational/planning meetings on forward planning and coordination of meetings and activates
- Through consultation with group members ensure collective involvement for decisions and actions, and that roles and tasks are delegated effectively
- Monitor the work of the group and ensure that general group members are involved where possible
- To work towards ensuring support is in place locally for people affected by MND, for example by developing a programme of support meetings
- Encourage the recruitment, induction and training of new volunteers, and encourage the development of skills, knowledge, experience and diversity of volunteers with the support of the Association
- To abide by the Association’s policies and guidance on information and confidentiality.
- To ensure the group are raising awareness locally, for example producing newsletters or maintaining an up to date website
Full training and induction will be provided and travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Essential Skills
We are looking for someone who has ability to motivate others and involve them in the work of the group, as well as being highly organised with an empathetic manner.
We are looking for someone to commit to approximately 2 hours a week including willingness to attend regular meetings
